“Adulting” is a funny thing. We all know what we should do—do our taxes on time, eat our vegetables, get enough sleep—but that doesn’t mean we always want to.
Trading is the same way.
We know we should follow our plan. Stick to our setups. Respect our stops. But sometimes, the market waves a tempting, too-good-to-be-true trade in front of us, and we think, Eh, just this once…
And just like skipping the gym or ignoring that check engine light, it feels like we’re getting away with something—until we’re not.
Here’s the thing: adulting (and disciplined trading) isn’t about being perfect. It’s about doing the right thing most of the time, so life (and your trading account) doesn’t turn into a disaster zone.
It’s not always fun to follow the plan, but neither is doing laundry. And yet, if you don’t, eventually, you’re wearing questionable outfits and wondering where it all went wrong.
So yeah, trading with discipline is adulting. And like most adult responsibilities, it pays off in the long run—even if it’s not the most exciting option in the moment.
