What Game Are You Playing?
Dear Trader,
In today’s Daily Rage, I talked about the Nasdaq futures blasting past 20,000. 🚀
Here’s today’s price action on a 2-minute timeframe.
See that tiny blue oval in the bottom left corner? I exceeded my daily target on a short and then turned off my computer.
And look what happened after that! 😳
Could I have made a lot more money if I stayed in the market and kept trading? It’s highly likely.
But the game I am playing at this point is NOT to try and make as much money as possible every day. I’m focused on building my discipline muscle. 💪🏼
When I started trading, I wouldn’t have understood why anyone wouldn’t go for as much as possible, as often as possible. But today, I have a greater perspective.
I have a big goal for this year and it’s not going to happen in a single day. That means I need to bank consistent daily wins and keep my losses super small. That’s more important to me right now than maxing out my profit.
The game I’m playing might be different than the game you’re playing. You need to know the rules of your game.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Stop comparing what you’re doing to what other people are doing. As we say in personal development, “compare leads to despair.” They may be playing a different game than you.
Figure out what your top goal is right now. People often try to tackle too many goals at once and end up achieving none of them. Part of my job as a coach is to keep people focused on their #1 goal so they don’t get distracted by shiny objects.
Create and follow your “rules” for that goal. (e.g. I turn off my computer when I hit my daily target and don’t keep trading.)
The market may very well keep rallying in this election year. Make sure your rules match the game you’re playing.
Have an awesome week, 😎
